Dr Sharmila Prakash is an experienced Consultant Psychiatrist with advanced qualifications in Consultation-Liaison Psychiatry, a subspecialty that integrates physical and mental health care across hospital and community settings. With over 14 years of clinical experience, she has worked across diverse psychiatric domains including inpatient, community, emergency, and general hospital settings, developing a comprehensive and nuanced approach to mental health care.
Sharmila is particularly passionate about the interface between medicine and psychiatry, and is committed to promoting models of care that are integrated, trauma-informed, and person-centered. Her clinical interests span a range of complex presentations, with a special focus on Neuropsychiatric conditions and Functional Neurological Disorders (FND). She also has extensive experience in the treatment of Eating disorders, Mood, Trauma and Anxiety disorders, and psychosomatic presentations.
In her current role as a Consultation-Liaison Psychiatrist, she leads and contributes to multidisciplinary care that is collaborative and holistic. Her therapeutic approach is grounded in empathy, curiosity, and respect for individual narratives, drawing on principles from mentalization-based therapy and trauma-informed care.
